Composite Portraits

I tried a few composite images (combining negatives from multiple portraits). I did a few but never really stuck with it.

Reality Series

I did this work in response to the the question,”Why do you shoot on multiple rolls of film rather than a single sheet?”

Presented as diptychs, the images are meant to show how the technique alters the viewer response and “reality” of the image.

Time of Day Series

For this series I shot each strip at a different time of day to see how it changes the image.

Digital Toning

This work isn’t a full series. The images were a group of experiments in which I scanned my B&W negatives

and tried “toning” them digitally. I’ve never been happy with the results but it inspired the technique I used for the Valles Centrales series.

(The V.C. series is also B&W negs but then masked and printed on color paper)

Equivalents

This group of images are made of mixed strips of film similar in idea to the surrealist “exquisite corpse” game.

Each strip is a different location but each relate and resolve into one image. I’ve never been truly happy with the results.
